Every year, the internet revives the same conversation: “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show just isn’t what it used to be.”
And this year, 2025, the noise got louder. People are complaining that the models “don’t look like angels anymore,” that it’s “lost its magic,” that it’s “too inclusive” or “too normal.”
But maybe that’s exactly the point.
The original Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was built on fantasy: tall, rail-thin women walking in million-dollar bras under pink lights. For decades, that fantasy defined what beauty was supposed to look like. It made teenage girls skip meals and grown women feel not enough.
Feel invisible
Now, the brand is trying to evolve. They’re finally showing bodies that look like people. Women who are short, curvy, soft, strong. Women who exist outside of one size and one shape.
And suddenly, people are nostalgic for the version of beauty that made most of us feel invisible.
Let’s be honest: the old Victoria’s Secret wasn’t “iconic.” It was aspirational to the point of pain.
It wasn’t fashion. Iit was fantasy dressed up as empowerment.

So when people complain that the show “isn’t the same,” what they’re really saying is that they miss when beauty was exclusive. When only a handful of women fit the mold.

Dream of being themselves
We’ve learned that confidence doesn’t come from fitting in. It comes from showing up as you are.
Also we’ve learned that diversity isn’t ruining the fantasy it’s just rewriting it.
And maybe that’s the most beautiful thing of all.
Because for the first time, girls watching at home don’t have to dream of becoming someone else.
They get to dream of being themselves.
