White Noise: July’s Playlist of my life

So, I feel like I am being vulnerable when I share what songs are on my playlist with you guys, but these are hands down the songs that express exactly how I feel and my life is going at this exact moment. Cause remember, “A Girl’s Favorite Songs Will Tell You More About How She Feels Than Her Lips Ever Will”. I’m in a place in my life where things are changing and I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m just going with the flow. This playlist express my emotions, which are all over the place.

Catch Me by Demi Lovato

Favorite Lyric from the song:

Before I fall too fast
Kiss me quick but make it last
So I can see how badly this will hurt me when you say goodbye

When we were Young by Adele

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

When we were young

Break Ya Neck by Busta Rhymes

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

Recline your seat rewind this heat
Keep bouncing up and down these streets

3005 by Childish Gambino

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

I used to care what people thought
But now I care more
I mean nobody out here’s got it figured out
So therefore, I’ve lost all hope of a happy ending
Depending on whether or not it’s worth it

Pink Matter by Frank Ocean

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

What if the sky and the stars are for show
And the aliens are watching live
From the purple matter

Feelings by Symphony Soto

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

I’ve never felt like this
So conflicted, in my feelings
Is your heart in it, like my heart is in it?
Does it feel the things I feel?

The Whole World by OutKast ft. Killer Mike

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

‘Cause the whole world loves it when you don’t get down

Figures by Jessie Reyez

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

I wish I could hurt you back
Love, what would you do if you couldn’t get me back
You’re the one who’s gonna lose
Something so special, something so real

Unless It’s With You by Christina Aguilera

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

I’ve been thinking a lot about the way that people change
The most beautiful beginnings can go down in flames
It’s inevitable, and that’s what’s got me so afraid
I’d rather be alone

You’ll Never Find Another Love by Lou Rawls

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

You’ll never find another love like mine
Someone who needs you like I do
You’ll never see what you’ve found in me
You’ll keep searching and searching your whole life through

Can’t Fight The Moonlight by LeAnn Rimes

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

You can try to resist
Try to hide from my kiss
But you know
But you know that you can’t fight the moonlight

Bring Me to Life by Evanescence

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul my spirit’s sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

Someday by Sugar Ray

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

Someday
When my life has passed me by
I’ll lay around and wonder why you were always there for me
One way

If Only by Raveena

image.png

Favorite Lyric from the song:

It’s too late to hold me
Too late to call me, too
You’re saying, “If only
I could get over you”
Too late to know me
I’m going without you
You’re saying, “If only
If only”

My thoughts on what Jermaine Dupri Said…

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VplqglPYGU%5D

Above is the video of Jermaine Dupri, a respected  producer and songwriter, sharing his opinion on women in the rap game. Watch the video before you continue reading one.

giphy-14

So after watching this interview, first of all the people who interviewed him asked him specifically what he thought of the WOMEN in the rap game, so he answered that question. And honestly I do have to agree with him. I have always thought that the women of today’s rap game only rap about sex or dancing or things of that sort. And I’m not going to lie, the man of the rap game do too, but that wasn’t the topic of discussion.

So there’s no need to be upset. And I am an advocate for women I am feminist to the day I die. But it seems like the rap game has fallen off. Back then people listen to rap for the lyrics and the beat. Today you can say a bunch of gibberish on a dope beat and become successful. Not gonna lie, some of those songs are catchy and I catch myself dancing to them but that’s just it…this song is just for dancing. What gets me to respect a rapper is their lyrics. The story that they try to tell through the lyrics.  Which is why one of the lyricist is Tupac Shakur.

Many female rappers have responded to what was said in the interview and you can agree with what some of them are saying. Some were  saying that sex sales, which is very true especially in the entertainment business. However, if you truly enjoy rapping, you’re mainly focused on getting your art out instead of making sales. You let your art do the talking. There was one person, who shared their opinion and named artists who don’t use sex to sell and it’s not a coincidence that most of them are dark skin. Which brings up the topic of discussion of colorism, but that’s for a different conversation. Because people refuse to see how big of a role that plays in every day life.

The rappers who are still talked about today and those who are named when people are asked who influenced them, remain relevant for a reason. Do you know how talented you have/had to be to remain relevant and respected years later? Do you think the artists today are going to have the impact? Or will it still be those before them? I’m just saying, the rappers from back then had range and brought awareness with their lyrics. And yes I’m speaking about women, because that is what the question was originally about. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill … and so on. Even little Kim wrote verses that spoke on real stuff. Go listen to the song “Can’t hold us down” by Christina ft. Lil Kim. I want rappers who are the voice for the voiceless.

Now I’m not trying to knock anyones hustle/craft. I just believe the rap game has changed and hope that one day it gets back to hardcore lyrics and lyrics that are saying something. I want those with talent to start getting the shine it absolutely deserves. BRING TALENT BACK BECAUSE WHAT WE HAVE NOW IS BORING. I said what I said.

White Noise Post: Feel Good Music for the Nostalgia

We all have those songs that just bring up emotions we never knew we could feel again. Like I said before, I’m a lyrics girl, while the beat plays apart, I pay more attention to the lyrics, which is why I can relate to these songs. The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani ft. Akon Favorite … Read moreWhite Noise Post: Feel Good Music for the Nostalgia
