The Art of Meditation: A How to!

“THE THING ABOUT MEDITATION IS: YOU BECOME MORE AND MORE YOU .”-  DAVID LYNCH

With yesterday being International Self Care Day, I think it is important I bring awareness to a helpful tool that will get you through life. Many would not believe the impact mediation can have on your life. This blog post is to bring awareness to something that can truly help your health. So, every day I wake up and one of the first things I do is take a minute and reflect on things I am grateful and what I want to happen in the future.  I have an app on my phone and I think everyone should use it. I tell my friends about it all the time. This app only takes five minutes out of your day and is totally worth it.

Simple Habit App

This app literally has categories where you can choose what your mind focusses on. For instance, I’m in gratitude. Five minutes a day with the app and I listen to someone speak on gratitude and focus on what I am grateful for. No only does it help clear my mind/ get me to focus on one thing, but it makes me realize that I do actually have a lot going well for me in my life that most take for granted, like waking up and having a job to go to.

What exactly is meditation?

After I do all that, I drink a glass of water and go about my day on a positive note. I even have a playlist of music just for helping relax my mind. You have to start the day on positive.

There are so many benefits for meditation:

1. It helps increase blood flow to your brain
2. Boosts the immune system
3. Slows down aging
4. Decreases stress
5. Reduce Blood pressure
6. Creates positive emotions
7. Increases intelligence

Those are just to list a few. Some many fail to realize that your mental health is just as important as anything else. Use this playlist to clear your mind to explore your mind.

Rule your Mind to it will Rule You Playlist

I believe meditation is a great way to do self care. It is good for the soul. In order for your to fully enjoy life, you need to be able be alone with yourself at times and meditation is a good way to do that.

Many people have been turning to not so healthy ways for avoiding their problems. And I say avoiding because you truly aren’t dealing with you’re issues unless you are actually aware what they are and take time to reflect on them. I’m not judging what others do to forget about their issues but from my experience, temporary relief like alcohol is not the way to go. Because no matter how much you avoid it, it always comes back and gets worse.

It took me going back to my passions and reintroducing myself to myself for me to realize what was a healthy way for dealing with my emotions. Meditation allows me to be alone with my own thoughts and relax. There have been times where I have had a headache and right after meditating, it was gone because I was no longer stressing over something so little. The problems we make so big are not as big as we make them. Meditation has helped me realize that.

Make mediation the first step in transforming your life for the better. Trust me, it is something you will not regret.
