What’s a Classic Book That You Think Is Overrated?

What’s a classic book that you think is overrated?

Mine Is The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins

Let me be controversial for a second.

Everyone keeps praising The Let Them Theory like it’s some groundbreaking life manual that descended from the heavens to save stressed women everywhere.

And I’m going to say it:

It’s overrated.

There, I said it.

The entire concept of “let them” sounds empowering on the surface. Let them ignore you. Let them leave. Or, let them misunderstand you. And, let them judge you.

Cute in theory.

But in real life? It can become a lazy slogan people use instead of doing the deeper emotional work. First, sometimes you shouldn’t just “let them.” Second, sometimes you need boundaries. Sometimes you need communication. Sometimes you need accountability. Lastly, sometimes you need to confront patterns instead of pretending detachment is healing.

Now Listen

Not every situation is solved by acting unbothered.

And let’s be honest: social media helped make this book bigger than the message itself. A catchy phrase, aesthetically pleasing clips, and people repeating it like scripture. But catchy doesn’t always equal profound.

Some advice today is packaged as revolutionary when it’s really just recycled wisdom with modern branding.

I’m not saying the book has zero value. Some people genuinely needed that reminder to stop controlling others. Fair.

But for me?

It felt like surface-level empowerment dressed up as deep transformation. One, Growth is more than saying “let them.”

Growth is grieving and discernment.
Growth is uncomfortable conversations.
And growth is choosing yourself without performing indifference.

That’s the part nobody sells in a hardcover.

My Hot Take:

Some of today’s most hyped self-help books are popular because they’re easy to consume, not because they’re deeply life-changing.
