Reasons I believe that the Grammys are overrated

“The Grammys remain corrupt.”

The Weeknd

Hey guys welcome back to another post! This post is going to be my opinion. If you get offended or you don’t agree you are more than welcome to. But this goes on with the conversation of the Grammys being rigged. I honestly didn’t think that the Grammys are in favor of certain people over another. And in this post I’m gonna give you 10 reasons to back up my opinion!

Before I get started if you don’t already, follow my blog! Please click follow!

The Grammy’s

Let’s get started the Grammys is an award show and an award to acknowledge the achievements she of music artists. Throughout the years, this award to me, personally has become worthless. This is just because, I feel they just give them to anybody. The Grammys are held once a year and it feels like a lot of the A-list artists have stop showing up because of how snubbed it is. I honestly feel they use a lot of the artist to do performances as a way to get their views up. This is because they’ve noticed that views have gone down. For example BTS and Ariana Grande. Neither winning awards.

Now, I don’t want to take away from those who win, because many worked hard to get to the point they are in for the nomination. I just want to point out how the Grammys can be a joke.

“Never forget the Grammysdidn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation. They gave it to the white man Bon Iver.”

Nicki Minaj

Good music doesn’t always win. You don’t half to win a Grammy for validation. Let your numbers do the talking because that is clearly what we can rely on.

Examples: where the competition made sense

Let’s go back in time where there was actually competition. February 21, 2001. Female R&B vocal performance:

He wasn’t man enough by Toni Braxton

Try again by Aaliyah

Bag Lady by Erykah Badu

Getting in the way by Jill Scott

As we lay by Kelly Price

Those were all talented artist and it would’ve been a tough decision all of them deserved the nomination that they received. Toni Braxton did win that category but it’s understandable

1999 February 24 Grammys

Doo-wop ( that thing) by Lauryn Hill

A Rose is still a Rose by Aretha Franklin

I get lonely by Janet Jackson

Are you that somebody by Aaliyah

Tyrone by Erykah Badu

Lauryn Hill one that category and that makes sense considering that song was played everywhere including in movies.

I think I’m happier, not because of winning Grammys and selling records, but because it’s really fulfilling to have all these things happen with something you love to do.

John Legend

2004 Grammys contemporary R&B

Dangerously in love by Beyoncé

Love and live by Mary J. Blige

Chocolate factory by R. Kelly

Chapter 2 by Ashanti

Coming from where I’m from by Anthony Hamilton

Now this is was a tight category because all of those albums were played everywhere and they’re good the whole entire album is classic but Beyoncé did win that category

2019

Let’s bring it to 2019 where this category was for album of the year. Now I think this category was read just for the simple fact that Kendrick Lamar deserves so much better.

24K Magic by Bruno Mars

Awaken my love by Donald Glover

4:44 by JAY-Z

Melodrama by Lorde

Damn by Kendrick Lamar

Let’s be honest with ourselves, I don’t remember more than two songs from Bruno Mars album. And I have not heard anyone talk about them as well. I’ve heard many people use songs from Kendrick Lamar‘s album including in shows.

Another example of this is for a record of the year and even the winner herself said that she felt that she didn’t deserve it.

Hello by Adele

Formation by Beyoncé

Work by Rihanna featuring Drake

Seven years by Lukas Graham

Not only did Adele win that category, but she also won album of the year for 25 over Lemonade by Beyoncé. Come on you can’t tell me that was not read. Beyoncé was even asked to perform that song in the Super Bowl with someone else headlining. Lemonade was dropped digitally and still did great in numbers.

But the Grammys is just not something I can take too seriously. It would be a mistake to hinge my happiness on something so completely out of my control.

Wesley Schultz

Things become clear

As you can see, the Grammys get worse year by year. The artists just need to pay them no mind. Clearly this award is based on politics now. How did Yummy get nominated for best pop solo? That song has no substance.

Same reason Nicki Minaj’s Pink Print was snubbed of a Grammy. Same reason Cardi B’a Invasion of Privacy received a Grammy. One must kiss up to the board of the Grammys. They have favorites. But I digress.

Finally

To wrap things up, I just think that the Grammys better get it together or the views will continue to go down. Because now people are starting to see them for who they are!

  1. Idk about Bon Iver to comment. But on 2019, the people that won are the people that should of won IMO. That Bruno album was defo miles better than DAMN. Overall though, I do see where you are coming from with the Grammys
