What is Blackfishing?
“Blackfishing is a form of cultural appropriation, whereby the person pretends to be black or mixed race. The term is derived from the colloquialism “catfishing” when someone is lured into a relationship by means of a fictional or enhanced online persona.”
The Heading
For those of you who do not follow pop culture very closely, Jesy Nelson is leaving the popular music group, Little Mix. Little Mix has a lot going on for them, but the issue is how Jesy left the group. She complained that she was tired of being bullied and compared with her bandmates. In addition, you said that you did not want the attention, yet you had already embarked on a solo career.
Make it make sense. At the beginning of her branching out, she blocker her former bandmates. Which is red flag number one. Apparently, she did it for her mental health. Mhmm.
Upon learning that she was going solo, her group was flabbergasted. They didn’t find out until her debut single dropped.

In the video, her skin is darker than ever she goes out of her way to put on black features and participate in black culture. Do you know how she knows she’s in the wrong, when people begin to hold her accountable she turned off her comment and ignores them. The behavior of someone who knows they are guilty. Let’s Get real
This is why I feel like Nicki Minaj just needs to take a break from everything. She already knows that she has a lot she needs to worry about going on in her personal life. Then on top of that, you come on alive and you degrade another black woman and protection of a white woman who is in the wrong. If this woman would’ve just wore her skin complexion and appreciated the culture, they will not be any issues with supporting her solo career. But the way she went about it is what people are furious about.
Honestly, those words Nicki Minaj used were disgusting. So instead of her fans calling her out or holding her accountable for her childish behavior. Her fans are sticking up for her. As a fan, you were supposed to hold your favorite artist accountable for the dumb things they do and say. If Rihanna were to do anything wrong, I would hold her accountable and be like you know what I love your music but you’re wrong.
Here’s what needs to happen
I need for people to stop appropriating culture. Stop disrespecting others from culture. Also, the bullying has to stop. Below are celebrities are known for blackfishing.
Until people who created these trends and who are behind the features, are accepted. Other races need to stop, putting them on as a costume.
